For Eleventyseven, Hawk Nelson and The Rocket Summer fans, 7 Spin Music offers us  to “Hello Kelly”, who after selling over 15,000 copies with their introduction EP’s, and having shared the stage with Superchick, Rebecca St. James, John Reuben, Kids In The Way and Starfield (to name a few), shares a debut album self titled “Hello Kelly”.

“10 Good Reasons” talks about the sovereign love of God, despite our mistakes, make us worthy of his forgiveness, through the powerful punk/rock with influences of The Wedding, Fall Out Boy and The Fold. With energy and loud guitars, “Bring It Broken” is the voice of God inviting us to come toward him, lay it down and rebuild our pieces. Whistles and xylophones opening to “Favorite Arcade” haslisg an infectious and solid chorus, and talks about the pain we have in the breakups, the bridge goes something like: “How can I hate you when you buy me flowers?, How can I always trust you when they die?”, concluding with an intense instrumental features of heavy metal. Synchronously, and with the help of the strumming of an acoustic guitar and pads, “Disappearing” gives the equilibrium of pop/rock to the project and a voice that cries out: “Don’t leave me dissappearing, falling into the place, save me before I fade away”. Then appears on the tage “Fall Over Me” one of the more aggressive songs, well produced in this project, a prayer for divine rain, and yearning for grace and love: “Fall over me, just like how the rain comes I need your love, I feel your love everytime you fall over me”. The acoustic sound comes by “Simple Love Song”, a fun and simple love song, full of sincerity and joy. No comments on “Radio Edit Interlude” (only 40 seconds long) and on the other hand “The Right Thing” kicks off with crazy synths, guitars and one of the best tunes of this album. Influences of The Starting Line and The All American Rejects. “Wait For Dreams” tells of longing and perseverance through phrases like “I can not see what’s in my eyes, I can not feel what’s right beside, I can not speak to you if you are on the inside” that seems endless and pervasive. The sound naughty game, with the following security measures, make of “No Time For Tears” a phenomenon of creativity discussing the consequences of divorce in the lyrics: No time for tears. “Paper Bag Princess (Hey Elizabeth)” has touches of Eleventyseven, in other words, punk/pop with electro pinches. “My Girlfriend” has a similar sound to FM Static, and is a hilarious song, full of sarcasm, we can confirm at lines like: “My girlfriend is in love with everybody else or is everybody else just in love with my girlfriend. But she swears that she can be trusted. So this time can we just be honest?”. The diversity concludes with “Positive Thinking”, a song filled with optimism and hope in our quest to fight for a better future.

While Hello Kelly has much to learn about developing and defining its sound, this debut puts them in a good position. Making noise with their hyper-energetic sound and wasting more than 10 reasons, Hello Kelly makes this disc something exciting and fun.

Para seguidores de Eleventyseven, Hawk Nelson o The Rocket Summer, 7 Spin Music nos presenta a “Hello Kelly”, quien luego de la venta de más de 15,000 copias con sus EP’s  introductorios, y habiendo compartido escenario con Superchick, Rebecca St. James, John Reuben, Kids In The Way y Starfield (por nombrar algunos), nos comparte un álbum debut auto titulado “Hello Kelly”.

“10 Good Reasons” habla sobre el soberano amor de Dios, que a pesar de nuestros errores, nos hace merecedores de su perdón; a través del poderoso punk/rock con influencias de The Wedding, Fall Out Boy y The Fold. Con energía y guitarras estridentes, “Bring It Broken” es la voz de Dios invitándonos a venir hacia él, rendirnos y que él reconstruya nuestros pedazos. Silbidos y xilófonos aperturan a “Favorite Arcade” posee un coro contagioso y sólido, y habla sobre el dolor que tenemos en las rupturas amorosas; el puente dice algo cómo: “¿Cómo puedo odiarte, cuando tú me compras flores? ¿Cómo puedo confiar en ti si ellas siempre mueren?”, concluyendo con un intenso instrumental con rasgos de heavy metal. Sincronizadamente, y con la ayuda del rasgueo de una guitarra acústica y pads, “Disappearing” le da el equilibrio pop/rock al proyecto y clama a una voz: “No me dejes desaparecer ni caer, Sálvame antes de desvanecer”. Seguidamente aparece en el escenario “Fall Over Me” una de las canciones más agresivas y bien producidas de este proyecto; una oración por lluvia divina, anhelante de gracia y amor: “Desciende en mi, así como la lluvia viene, necesito  tu amor; siento tu amor cada vez que desciendes en mi”. El sonido acústico llega a cargo de “Simple Love Song”, una simple y divertida canción de amor, llena de sinceridad y alegría. Sin comentarios acerca de “Radio Edit Interlude” (de tan solo 40 segundos de duración); y por otro lado “The Right Thing” arranca con delirantes sintetizadores, guitarras y una de las mejores melodías de este álbum. Influencias de The Starting Line y The All American Rejects. “Wait For Dreams” nos habla de anhelos y perseverancia a través de frases como: “No puedo ver lo que hay en mis ojos, no puedo sentir lo que hay detrás, no puedo hablarte si estás dentro” que parece interminable y penetrante. El travieso sonido de videojuego, junto a la seguridad de los siguientes compases, hacen de “No Time For Tears” todo un fenómeno de creatividad discutiendo las consecuencias del divorcio en sus letras: “No hay tiempo para lágrimas”. “Paper Bag Princess (Hey Elizabeth)” tiene toques de Eleventyseven, en otras palabras, punk/pop con piscas de electro. “My Girlfriend” tiene un sonido similar al de FM Static,  y es una hilarante canción, llena de sarcasmo; lo podemos confirmar en líneas como: “Mi novia está enamorada de todo el mundo, o todo el mundo está enamorado de ella; pero jura que puedo confiar en ella, asi que es hora de ser honestos”. La diversidad concluye con “Thinking Positive”, una canción llenada de optimismo y esperanza en nuestro intento de pelear por un futuro mejor.

Si bien Hello Kelly tiene mucho que aprender en cuanto a desarrollar y definir más su sonido, este debut los coloca en una buena posición. Haciendo ruido con su híper-enérgico sonido y derrochando más de 10 motivos, Hello Kelly hacen de este disco algo emocionante y divertido.

Josiah James - The Morning Light

Josiah James discovered his call and music composition at age 14. He then launches 2 independent projects, “Alive in the Studio” at 16 years old, and “Awaiting the Morning” at 18, connecting to his audience with a pop/rock/folk/worship sound. “The Morning Light” was produced and recorded by Colby Wedgeworth, known for his work with Bidwell, Method Echo, Hazel & Vine, and thanks to its diversity, Josiah James is ready to move to the next phase of his career doing exactly what he was called to do.

“Reaching for the Stars” opens the disc correctly. Very catchy melodic pop, started by sparks from pads and electric guitars, followed by an attractive rhythm. This song reflects the admiration that we have to see God’s creation and the fire that desire that burns in our hearts to achieve our dreams, our stars. This is the first official single of the album, and there is no better choice. Accompanied by a guitar riff, tambourines and synthesizers, “Break Out” speak about decisions and faith, with words likes: “These are the questions across my mind … I need to break out, I need some faith. Well, I find peace in the other side; well I find love behind your eyes”. The song that gives title track resonates strongly through a message of hope and redemption, “The Morning Light” has a strong chorus with pianos and guitars, “I’m waiting for you to come …” declares the bridge. “Send down Your Heart” is an acoustic ballad, simple and compelling intoning phrases like “Meeting you, I am breathing you in, I’m captivated by your presence. Seeing through, your beautiful eyes, they comforts me, they tell me you´re mine” that quickly take you to an atmosphere of worship. Taking off with a guitar intro, “The Bigger Picture” pours energy into every tune, and certainly opens the way for “Blinded”, which gives the perfect foil to the environment. Acoustic sound that tells the chronicle of a girl looking for love, and how she find fulfillment in God through Jesus’ sacrifice. One of my favorite songs is “The Prodigal”, reminding us that we would never be prodigal sons, because God has promised not letting go. The middle becomes interesting thanks to the solo and guitar riffs, linked to the voices that proclaim once again: “You never let me down”. Poetry made song is how to describe “Waves”, with influences from Starfield and a beat in 6/8. “Everything” progressing through the fade in, and proclaims, “Cos ‘God you are everything, more than I can ask for, more than I need, cos’ you are the air that I breathe”. The middle is filled with guitars, drums, delays and a brit/pop sound, breathing the divine air in every sentence. “Waiting for Forever” is a surprise in the project. It is creative, rhythmic, relaxing and playing with sound effects, a banjo and a fascinating melody. The intermediate is epic and a voice cries: “I will sing out”. Harmonious pianos start to “Caught up In Love”, a song of love and praise. We were saved by the blood of the lamb and have been captured by his love and grace. “Hallelujah, we’ve been finally found the truth” speaks with passion.

A one man band. Josiah works with his pedals to create something that’s not your typical acoustic performance. With live looping and effects that will make the performance sound anything but acoustic. “The Morning Light” deserves to be in your music library.

Josiah James descubrió su llamado a la composición y a la música a los 14 años. Seguidamente lanzo 2 proyectos independientes: “Alive in the Studio” a los 16 años y “Awaiting the Morning” a los 18, conectando a su audiencia con un sonido pop/rock/folk/worship. “The Morning Light” fue producido y grabado por Colby Wedgeworth, conocido por sus trabajos con Bidwell, Method Echo, Hazel & Vine y gracias a su diversidad,  Josiah James ya está listo para pasar a la siguiente fase de su carrera haciendo exactamente lo que estaba llamado a hacer.

“Reaching For The Stars” apertura acertadamente el disco. Pop melódico muy pegajoso, iniciado por pads y chispas de guitarras eléctricas, seguidos de un ritmo atrayente. Esta canción refleja la admiración que tenemos al ver la creación de Dios y el deseo ardiente en nuestros corazones por alcanzar nuestros sueños, nuestras estrellas. Este es el primer sencillo oficial del álbum, y no hay mejor elección. Acompañado de un riff de guitarra, panderetas y sintetizadores, “Break Out” nos habla decisiones y fe, con palabras como: “Estas son las preguntas que hay en mi mente. Necesito escapar, necesito un poco de fe. He encontrado la paz en el otro lado, he encontrado amor detrás de tus ojos”. La canción que le da título al álbum, resuena con fuerza a través un mensaje de esperanza y redención; “The Morning Light” posee un coro enérgico junto a los pianos y guitarras, “Estoy esperando que vengase…” declara el puente. “Send Your Heart Down” es una balada acústica, simple e irresistible y entona frases tales como “Estoy encontrandote, estoy respirandote, estoy cautivado port u presencia. Viendo a través de tus hermosos ojos, me confortan y me dicen que tú eres mío” que rápidamente te llevan a una atmósfera de adoración. Despegando con un intro de guitarra, “The Bigger Picture” derrama energía en cada melodía, y con seguridad abre paso a “Blinded”, que le da el perfecto contraste al ambiente. Sonido acústico que nos narra la crónica de una chica en búsqueda de amor, y que encuentra la plenitud en Dios a través del sacrificio de Jesús. Una de mis canciones preferidas es “The Prodigal”, recordándonos que nunca más seremos eso hijos pródigos, pues Dios ha prometido no dejarnos ir y mucho menos soltarnos. El intermedio se torna interesante gracias al solo y riffs de guitarra, enlazados a las voces que una vez más proclaman: “Nunca me dejarás”. Poesía hecha canción, es cómo describiría a “Waves”; con influencias de Starfield y un beat en 6/8 muy particular. “Everything” progresa a través del fade in, y proclama: “Pues tú Dios eres todo, más de lo que podría pedir, mas de lo que necesito. Tú eres el aire que respiro”. El intermedio se inunda de guitarras, drums, delays y un sonido brit/pop, y respiran el aire divino en cada oración. “Waiting For Forever” es toda una sorpresa en el proyecto. Es creativa, rítmica, relajante y juega con efectos de sonido, un banjo y una melodía fascinante. El intermedio es épico y grita a una voz: “Yo cantaré”. Pianos armoniosos inician a “Caught Up In Love”, un canto de amor y alabanza. Fuimos salvos por la sangre del cordero y hemos sido capturados por su amor y gracia. “Aleluya, al fin hemos encontrado la verdad” pronuncia con pasión.

Una banda conformada por un solo sujeto. Josiah trabaja con sus pedales para crear algo que no es el típico sonido acústico. “The Morning Light” merece estar en tu biblioteca musical.
