Winner of the Juno Awards and with a first successful album, from which we extract “Love Is the Anchor”, single with which he became known, is now returning with a more sophisticated, mature and solid sound. Along with a wide variety of musical styles including R&B, gospel and soul, dares to seduce us with “Love and the Lack Thereof” this year.

“One By One” opens with piano chords, followed by an organ and rhythm guitars, with an air of Jimmy Needham. If we want to change the world, we must begin with “the man in the mirror” (ourselves) and exercise radical changes in our lives. The final will unleash a slap bass, guitar solos and vocals. The feeling of “Stop (You’ve Only Got One Heart)” is pervasive, and calls us to realize our attitudes in romantic relationships in phrases such as “Why do not you stop, she’s only got one heart, so before you break it, stop “” Why do not you stop?” Trumpets and harmonies fused with magical touches of hammond and disco winds on the bridge. If you like styles such as “The Washington Projects” or “Jason Mraz”, here’s a better option. The gospel and funk come with “Causin’ A Commotion” is a song of revival and happiness full of musical surprises similar to Newworldson’ work. Tambourines that make a party in your heart and cause revolution in each measure. One of the most relaxing and profound songs is “How Am I Supposed to Breathe” which takes off with strings and piano accompanied by a love poem. The romantic chorus sighs us “Cos’ how am I supposed to breathe when you take my breath away? How am I supposed to leave when my heart knows I should stay? How am I supposed to love anyone apart from you? Tell me love, ‘cos I don’t have a clue? Furthermore, “Ain’t Got Love” starts with safety through the tireless piano, organ splashes. It gives us a message to people that despite their fame, success and recognition have nothing in reality cos’ they have no love, just as 1 Corinthians 13 speaks explicitly. The atmosphere calms down with “I Will Come” overflowing emotions by delicate piano. The bridge is sweet, passionate filled of magical whispers, “I will come, I will sweep you heart away..holding on tight for now and forever after”“. Giving it a funky/disco beat to  the album we have “I’ve Got That Feelin’” recalling the promise that God is taking care of us and he has control of our destinies, with a catchy bridge and witty saying: “In the middle of the day, in the middle of night, I just keep holding on, I’m gonna be alright”. The mystery that has “Peace” is incomparable and softly sings a psalm of strength and security in God. The details in this song captures you in just a few seconds, transported you to another dimension. “Every Word You Say (So Unbelivable)” is innately creative, demonstrating the explanatory power of Greg who marvels of God’s creation and says with conviction: “I believe in every word you say”. The pace is distilled in “Flow” which speaks to the heart of that person trying to escape the routine of everyday life. A fascinating and unexpected change occurs in the intermediate through with hints of Latin jazz. The contrast to “This Is Worth Fighting For” gives the project is almost heavenly. We often wonder if it’s worth fighting for our dreams, and this acoustic trova featuring country/folk sound, reveals the real reason for our fight. “Homeland” gives pause to the buzz road through his gentle chorus: “This is not the last dance; this is not the final glimpse. This is not the last goodbye; this is one step closer to the homeland”. The noise is censored by “Canceling the Noise” inducing to stop the world for a minute of silence and hear the voice of God. A beautiful song that ends this extraordinary evening.

Ganador de los Juno Awards y con un primer exitoso álbum, de donde extraemos “Love Is The Anchor”, single que lo hizo conocido, regresa ahora con un sonido más elaborado, maduro y sólido. Junto a una amplia variedad de estilos musicales que incluyen el R&B, Góspel y Soul, se atreve a seducirnos con “Love and the Lack Thereof” este año.

“One By One” se inicia con acordes de piano seguido de un órgano y guitarras rítmicas, y aires de Jimmy Needham. Si es que queremos cambiar el mundo, debemos empezar por “el hombre del espejo” (nosotros mismos) y ejercer cambios radicales en nuestras vidas. El final abre paso a un slap de bajo, solos de guitarra y voz. El sentimiento de “Stop (You’ve Only Got One Heart)” es penetrante, y nos llama a tomar conciencia en nuestras actitudes en las relaciones amorosas y en frases como “Why don’t you stop, she’s only got one heart, so before you break it, stop” “¿Por qué no te detienes?, ella tiene sólo un corazón, así que antes que lo quiebres, detente.” Trompetas y armonías, fusionadas con mágicos toques de hammond, y aires de disco en el puente. Si te van estilos cómo el de “The Washington Projects” o “Jason Mraz”, aquí tienes una mejor opción. El góspel y funk llegan con “Causin’ A Commotion”, es un canto de avivamiento y felicidad lleno de sorpresas musicales similares al trabajo de Newworldson. Panderos que hacen fiesta en tu corazón y que causan revolución en cada compás. Una de las canciones más relajantes y profundas es “How Am I Supposed to Breathe” que despega con strings y pianos acompañados de un poema de amor. El romántico coro nos suspira “Cos’ how am I supposed to breathe when you take my breath away? How am I supposed to leave when my heart knows I should stay? How am i supposed to love anyone apart from you? Tell me, love, ‘cos I don’t have a clue.” “¿Cómo se supone que pueda respirar si tú me dejas sin aliento? ¿Cómo se supone que me deba ir cuando mi corazón sabe que debo quedarme? ¿Cómo se supone que pueda amar a otra aparte de ti? Dime amor, pues no tengo idea.” Por otro lado, “Ain’t Got Love” arranca con seguridad a través del incansable piano, salpicaduras de órganos. Nos regala un mensaje a la gente que a pesar de su fama, éxito y reconocimiento no poseen nada en realidad pues no tienen amor, tal y como 1ª Corintios 13 nos habla explícitamente. La atmósfera se tranquiliza con “I Will Come” desbordando emociones mediante el delicado piano. El intermedio es dulce, apasionado, mágico y susurra: “I will come, I will sweated your heart away, and together we will fly, holding on time for now and forever after”. Dándole un toque funky/disco/electro al álbum tenemos a “I’ve Got That Feelin’”, recordándonos la promesa de que Dios está cuidando de nosotros y que tiene el control de nuestros destinos, y con un puente pegajoso e ingenioso que dice: “In the middle of the day, in the middle of night, I just keep holding on, I’m gonna be alright” “En medio del día, en el medio de la noche, de ti me sostendré pues sé que todo irá bien”. El misterio que posee “Peace” es incomparable y suavemente nos canta un salmo de fortaleza y seguridad en Dios. Los detalles en esta canción te capturan en tan solo un par de segundos, te transportan a otra dimensión. “Every Word You Say (So Unbelivable)” es innatamente creativo, demostrando la capacidad interpretativa de Greg que se maravilla de la creación de Dios y afirma con convicción: “I believe in every word you say” “Creo en cada palabra que dices”. El ritmo se destila en “Flow” que habla al corazón de aquella persona que intenta salir de la rutina de su diario vivir. Un cambio inesperado y fascinante se da en el intermedio a través del jazz con pizcas latinas. El contraste que “This Is Worth Fighting For” le da al proyecto es celestial. Muchas veces nos preguntamos si vale la pena luchar por nuestros sueños, y esta trova acústica con rasgos de country/folk, nos revela el verdadero motivo de nuestro combate. “Homeland” le otorga una pausa al camino, rumoreando a través de su dócil coro: “This is not the last dance, this is not the final glimpse. This is not the last goodbye, this is one step closer to the homeland”. “Este no es el último baile, este no es último vistazo, este es no es el último adiós, este es un paso más a nuestro hogar”. La bulla es censurada a través de “Canceling the Noise” induciendo a detener el mundo por un minuto, guardar silencio y oír la voz de Dios. Una bella canción que da por terminada esta extraordinaria velada.

“Love and the Lack Thereof” ha conquistado mi corazón, y tú puedes ser cómplice de esta pasión al oírlo.
